I love this video clip because it shows how lonely you can be in a long-distance race. This sequence was shot shortly before Ronnie quit. There are days on which you are not able to deliver even though you have been in great form all the weeks before. Plus Ironman Hawaii is a different Biest with many faces, scary, alluring, charming, and challenging ....
If you have been racing this race, you know what Ronnie was going through until finally deciding to discontinue the race of the year.
Back home in Germany we began to process our footage from Hawaii, a tremendous amount. It will take quite a while for the different stories unfold.
We start out with race day, the day the Biest crew Mirjam, Joyce and Mark among others had accomplished their jobs during race week successfully. We therefore have been fairly relaxed and tried to enjoy the day as you will see later. On race day things move beyond our control!

Beijing 2011, part 4
After I had reached my goal meeting MACCA and before my departure I enjoyed a peaceful Sunday morning in one of Beijing's parks. It was an awesome journey I shall undertake any time again!

Beijing 2011, part 3
After 4 hours of walking back and forth through an highly secured area, I found Chris. In between I had my doubts whether I might find him at all. It may as well have happened that I had to leave without seeing him at all. In China everything is possible.

Only getting a taxi driver understand, where you want to go is a little piece of art in communication skills.
Beijing 2011, part 1
Kona 2011 got just ticked off the calender and now I am posting China clips? Yes, I think it is a good break after all you have been bombarded with from Hawaii and the Ironman world championships. You may especially now enjoy a trip of another kind!
It was hot as usual and it was hard as every year for everyone out there. Suffering and struggling were common phenomena also in 2011. After this race the arguing, the excuses, the uncountable analyses will be ongoing for months.
It is the same procedure as every year.
The energy lab is one of the pivotal parts of tomorrow's race. It's hot, you reach it at a time of the race where you may easily hit the wall. Yvonne and Ronnie are well aware of that. A few days ago they were just chatting easily about what was about to come tomorrow.
All the Biests wish both of them all the best for this difficult race.
We had spent the whole morning in our Biestmilch store, when Klaus and Armin, the guys from the German triathlon magazine "Tritime" passed by with two of Macca's book in their hands. They came to see me and asked me to get the 2 books signed by Chris.
Okay, no problem I said. I knew of the book signing at the expo, and there the idea was born.

Of course, we have not been the only ones having an autograph session today. Therefore we were quite skeptical how this would work.
But it was just amazing how many people came. The atmosphere was relaxed, and everybody in a good mood.
