When we have been in Zell am See for the 70.3 IRONMAN® World Championship we lived in the most marvelous place you can imagine, an old farm house with adjoining buildings like stables and an old granary from the 16th century. Since that time the property has been owned by the same family. It gives me goose pimples thinking back in time and trying to figure out how hard the people must have been working to make a living. In former days they were growing grain, unbelievable on these steep slopes, but there was a mill down in the valley and one could make a decent living.
Today the family is raising kettle, sheep, goats, donkeys, chickens, quails, rabbits and ponies beside renting out rooms to a couple of guests. In this spot life appears so soft. Even the killing of animals for own use only loses its brutality. It returns back to the basic intention of surviving. Giving birth becomes a daily experience and is not a wonder of the world. This cycle of life seemed rather intact to us up there 1100m above Zell am See.
In this setting Biestmilch is not an alien, but a question of survival. The foal you see in the video was just born the night before. The mother managed this job all alone without human interference, as it actually should be. Without Biestmilch the foal has only got a rare chance to survive. One more proof of the concept: no immunity – no life!
