The Key Drama of San Francisco
This time when traveling to San Fra I had booked Fritz and myself into a private studio. You can save a lot of money by doing so. Fritz and I arrived early evening and were looking forward to getting into the place. Until then I had not received any instructions on how to get into our apartment in Chestnut Street.

Thank god, we hadn't closed the apartment door yet.... saved!!!!

Sometimes in this fast moving world it seems that memories are luxury, something one cannot afford anymore while looking ahead of time. Nevertheless, my experience tells me that memories give a person stability when times are rough. Therefore we dare to go back to Kona 2012 one more time and look at what we have done. Everybody in his or her mind may want to go through the ups and downs, the smiles and the tears he or she went through. The feelings may be sweet and sometimes a little sour, but taking a breath and recall can also be a great relief.
Of course, a video rarely shows the sad moments, but in the end, when your are looking at all the smiling faces, keep in mind that where there is a laugh and a smile there is always the other side to it as well, no matter who it is.

On the last day on the Big Island after the big race exhaustion may easily bring about some hallucinations. The situation was so bizarre, us assembling the CUBE on the shoulder of Queen K Highway. Luckily enough no police car passed by, and none one of the gusts of wind boosted by the by-passing truck didn't blew our highway alien into the traffic.
We were definitely relieved when the photographer finally arrived to give us the orders where to place the tender object. Carefully, we carried our beloved alien over the lava fields. Meanwhile all our photo models had come too, and the tension eased.

In the end we had lots of fun, and where happy to have been able to collect with Rachel Joyce, Chris McCormack, Sebastian Kienle, Ronnie Schildknecht and Andi Boecherer all our biest athletes in one place.
Watch the video and you will fell the magic of the lava fields, a great experience!

Finish lines can be "biesty" creatures until you have crossed them.

Behind the Biestmilch crew were lying two hard weeks of work with late nights and early mornings. So getting up at race day was not a big deal for us. Race day is always special for us. On the one hand we feel this relief that the job is done, on the other hand the body is pumped with excitement whether the race will meet our hopes and expectations. With Chris, Sebi, Ronnie, Andi and last but not Rachel we had top guys racing, expectations were high.
Today all of us know that things turned out slightly different. Macca had a DNF, Ronnie got over-heated and had to slow down, Andi ran into a row of unlucky incidents, and Rachel was definitely not yet in top form after her chest infection during race week. Only Sebi hit the point, even though he had a flat, he already showed in his first Kona race that he is an exceptional athlete, a real racer with lots of guts.

At the end of the day when the cows had all come home we have been exhausted but happy, and ready to come back to Kona in 2013. This short finish line video gives a good impression of the emotions our guys where in crossing the line.

Monday after the race when everybody was in somehow relaxed – even though in different emotional states depending on the race result – all of us had agreed to meet on a Lava field round about 6k before Waikoloa village for a photo shoot. You may not believe it but it was the first professional shooting since the Biestmilch Seven company was founded in 2000.

Participants were: highly reputed photographer Michael Rauschendorfer, Chris "MACCA" McCormack, unfortunately with a DNF, Rachel Joyce, unlucky 11th after having a chest infection during race week, Sebastian Kienle, 70.3 world champion, 2012 & 4th in Kona after having had a flat, Ronnie Schildknecht, 19th place and not really happy with himself, and Andi Boecherer, 21st and probably the most unhappy guy in the group. Too many things had happened that spoiled his race. That he forgot his tripants at the condo, that his trisuit tore apart, and his drinking bottle cracked on the ride are only some of the unlucky incidents that made him upset about this race. But more about this later in our interviews "the race in 60 seconds" that will follow this post ...

Anyway, be it as it may we all came together on the Lava fields, and whether it was the incredible power of the lava or the power and harmony in the group as such or – what is most likely – all together made this shooting real fun, and the results were therefore outstanding. The photos of the making don't show the stress the Biestmilch crew had to rebuild the CUBE on the highway before carrying it into the Lava fields. Almost 3 hours before we have been there to be ready in time, the wind was blowing fairly strong and the sun was burning on the asphalt. But Fritz, Herwig, Mark, Bettina and myself succeeded to get the job done without any serious incidents, we even had some good laughs the situation being rather absurd with us and this big white thing fiddling around on the highway's shoulder and being shattered by each truck passing.

Then we had to wait for Micheal. He had to decide where to position the CUBE on the lava field. Let's say we were standing still on the highway for ca. 45 minutes, then he came, what a relief!. Thank god, that Harald Eggebrecht and Anton Thomma from tri2b came with him to help. Carrying the Cube on to the fields was amazingly easy, and what was even more surprising was that the CUBE was standing so incredibly stable on the lava despite strong and gusty winds. This must have been the magic of the place!

I think I need not to tell more, the photos speak for themselves...

It was just awesome and a great opportunity to introduce the guys to the crowd.

Nothing needs to be said about Chris. Ronnie was the first man under 8 hours on US soil, Andi is 70.3 European champion and finished 8th in Kona last year, and Sebastian our youngster is the new world champion on the 70.3 distance.
It will be an extremely exciting race for the Biestmilch team this year. Looking forward to the thrill already!
