The Orient has been fascinating for us ever since. Our ancestors have been traveling East under great danger to bring back the most precious goods to Europe.
A vibrant commercial exchange started has never stopped overshadowed by lots of violence until today. After the dark period of colonialism independent countries appeared on the map of Arabia that with the traditions and habits remained mostly strange to us.
When the oil was discovered on the Arabic peninsula small unimportant desert states became catapulted into the focus of world politics. They developed into the most spectacular places one can imagine and attract people from all over the world.
In the Arabic Emirates you can see what money makes possible, and what money is able to destroy.
Abu Dhabi is a fancy place, everybody knows this. The triathlon race there was an event that had a touch of glamor too. It was a tough race on a hot day with a lot of DNFs and fallen heroes. I think everything about this difficult race has been said already.
Therefore we thought it may be much more amusing for you to see our guys in some kind of a BIESTMILCH road movie.
If you travel to the Emirates it is a must to visit the desert, drive with a 4-wheeler like crazy through the dunes, ride a camel and smoke the shisha.
So we did. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself which of the things made you feel more sick the drive, the camel or the shisha ;-) ...
The camel was perfect for posing, watch and smile! The boys have been really courageous.
Driving through the dunes with a 4-wheel drive is real fun, but definitely only for those, who don't become sea sick. One of us was unlucky. He felt severely sick. Of course, it remains our secret who it was.
Some of the vehicles got stuck, and our desert prince had to help them. This gave our poor boy some time to recover.
By the way, you should always choose a local driver!
Yet another race venue I have been with Chris where he didn't have his goggles with him. This time France came to rescue him. There was no time to choose the political correct goggles.
All of you who know Chris know that it wouldn't make sense to revolt ;-)... same applies to his sponsors. In some aspects the boy is a hopeless case.
On Friday, the only holiday of the week, the hands of the clock move even slower. We enjoyed a walk in the soft light of the evening when almost every Muslim of Abu Dhabi is on his or her way to the mosque to pray.
... there is nothing more to say just watch!
