Das heisst Red Bull verleiht nicht nur Flügel, sondern ist bis zu einem gewissen Grad auch noch gesund.

Guaranaextrakt kann als natürliches Antioxidans eingesetzt werden. Das haben Wissenschaftler von der Universität Maribor in Slowenien festgestellt. Sie fanden einen Phenolgehalt von 180mg Gallussäureäquivalenten/g*, darin 30mg Proanthocyanidine. Dem alkoholischen Extrakt kann darüber hinaus auch eine gute Wirkung gegenüber Pilzen und Bakterien zugeschrieben werden (fungizid, antibakteriell).

*Gallussäure ist der Trivialname für 3,4,5-Trihydroxybenzoesäure, einer aromatische Hydroxycarbonsäure, ihre Salze heißen Gallate.
Sie ist der Baustein der pflanzlichen Gerbstoffgruppe der Gallotannine
und kommt z.B. sehr reich in Eichenrinde und Galläpfeln vor. Grüner Tee
enthält im Vergleich zum Schwarztee den zehnfachen Gehalt an
Gallussäure, und doppelt so viel Gallussäure wie Oolong Tee.
Gallussäure wird verwendet zur Herstellung von Eisengallustinten
(früher), Antioxidantien in Lebensmitteln, Sonnenschutzmitteln und
Farbstoffen.

Historische Informationen
Gallussäure wurde zuerst durch Carl Wilhelm Scheele beschrieben. Als natürliches Produkt des pflanzlichen Sekundärstoffwechsels ist die Gallussäure wichtigste Ursprungsverbindung der aromatischen Verbindungen im Erdöl.
