Ironman 70.3 New Orleans: the suffering of one of the world’s best triathletes Chris McCormack

The Ironman 70.3 New Orleans counted 3000 athletes. The course was demanding in many aspects. No loops, no turns, a straight line from the start to the finishline, no spectators along the course, a lonely race for those out there. The weather was humid and hot, aid stations were sparse, and Coke was missing. This drove many an athlete into an insurmountable trough. So it happened to Chris. He counted the miles to the finishline, and was on the edge of giving in several times. But he made and came in second place. But it was hard, his face shows it. I rarely saw him like this.
I had a hard day too. Because of the weird course I had to ride for more than 20 miles to reach the swim start. Early morning, still in a daze I lost my path, and arrived there still in time, but soaked with sweat. The shots I made are good for the bin, frustrating!

Brent McCMahon from Canada, a young talented ITU guy one the race.
