10th Ironman in Frankfurt, it should have been a race joy, but it was not, it was a race of pains and disppointments. Not only our biest girl Nicole Leder dropped out almost deep frozen, hundreds of age groupers were not able to finish the race.
It was raining, it was damn cold and it was windy. Most of the athletes came off the bike completely undercooled. The same applied to the spectators, it was hard from them too, their enthusiasm was dampened, that’s for sure.
These conditions made the big smile of Meike Krebs even more precious, because smiles of this kind you didn’t see many on this day. Even the smiles of the winners did not come easy. Yvonne van Vlerken was so happy with her 4th place, but it took her some minutes of recovery behind the finish line until her face was able to show the joy.
