I love this video clip because it shows how lonely you can be in a long-distance race. This sequence was shot shortly before Ronnie quit. There are days on which you are not able to deliver even though you have been in great form all the weeks before. Plus Ironman Hawaii is a different Biest with many faces, scary, alluring, charming, and challenging ….
If you have been racing this race, you know what Ronnie was going through until finally deciding to discontinue the race of the year.
That he is in incredible good shape you can see, if you look at the splits of Michael Raelert and Ronnie at IM 70.3 in Austin, Texas. Ronnie lost more than one and a half minutes on Michael off the swim, he came off the bike 4:05 minutes in front of Michael, and on the run Michael was 3:58 faster than Ronnie. In the end he was only 2 minutes behind an athlete who is known as the talent in the scene! No doubt that Ronnie is in good form and has still undisclosed potential.
