Today I want to tell you about Mario. Mario is among many other things a young triathlete and with his young age – he is not yet 30 – already chief executive of SkinFit Germany www.skinfit.at. And he is a biestmilch athlete almost from the beginning of its history.
On Saturday I received a euphoric phone call from Mario. It is not important where he was racing and who else was racing, and his place is of neither importance (he finished 13th). Important is the fact how he made this race. It shows that if one is courageous and consequent enough to change ones training concept, that one can be successful. Mario was successful beside all the stress he had on the job, travelling a lot, being away from home for weeks without a weekend off.
The first time in a race he enjoyed running and could speed up at the end of the race. Normally, he is a very good swimmer and he is good on the bike, but running always scared the hell out of him.
And this time, everything was different.
Many of you are probably curious to know how he managed this. First of all, he is a very open personality who is listening and reflecting what others are saying.
He was not that good on the bike this time. On a normal day, he would have given up, an inner monologue would have been haunting him, saying:»Mario, now you don’t stand a chance anymore, because running is not yours.« This time nothing like this happened. He managed to recall Maccas (Chris McCormack) advices on time. It worked. And the mental training he did payed off as well.
I hope Mario reads this post and tells you the details, because I am not entitled to tell you his secrets. He is one of the rare persons I met in my life who are very capable of learning because they are not too proud to admit weeknesses, and are not too ashamed to ask questions.
