Bahrain, December 2015
Bahrain is a small island country (55k long; 18k wide). Even though it has to give lots of room to oil and gas refineries and US military bases. There is not much place left for dreams!
We crossed the desert on our way to the Tree of Life, a living monument and pride of the tiny country. Pipelines cross the desert everywhere and in-between the workers’ settlements tucked away in the sand.
One is tempted to judge and say that the big oil companies took the easy way out and didn’t put their pipes underground. The desert feels destroyed, but I have to admit, I don’t know how it was and it looked like before the exploitation of Bahrain’s oil and gas resources began.
