Rachel Joyce, Ronnie Schildknecht & Andi Boecherer about their actual training and how they integrate Biestmlich

We gave you our standard dosage guidelines for training before. But using Biestmilch is a very individual thing. Everyone of you has to find out how to get out the optimal out of this marvelous substance for him or herself. After Chris McCormack and Sebastian Kienle we now want to forward to you the path to Biestmilch that Rachel, Ronnie and Andi haven chosen for themselves.

Rachel Joyce

1. How do you currently feel, how is the training progressing? (for example, have you been sick, did you have weight problems, was motivation an issue, on a scale between 1 to 10 where would you see actual fitness etc…, how much time do you calculate to be fully fit…)

Having my tonsils out at the end of November meant that I had more time off than usual during the off season, and so I knew I’d be returning to training more unfit than usual. I am not worried about this though. I think sometimes a proper rest is beneficial and I know that once I have a few weeks of consistent training under my belt I will feel my strength and fitness return. I am focusing on strength and conditioning just now as post operation I lost quite a bit of muscle mass, due to the fact I just couldn’t eat very much. It’s always the muscle that goes, not the fat! I am feeling very motivated. Having forced time off just showed me how much I love training.

2. Please, specify your current Biestmilch intake (amount, frequency); is this the regimen during a training camp or is this a pre-race regimen?

At the moment I am taking two chews in the morning and two more in the evening. I think post operation my immune system was a little compromised and unbalanced, so I am keen to strengthen it as much as possible. This is a good idea anyway I think: winter is a time when lots of bugs are going round!

3. How does your recovery day look like?

I tend to keep moving on my recovery day.  An easy swim perhaps combined with a 90 minute to 2 hours spin on my bike.

I was here in Stellenbosch enjoying the training along with the good weather. The form is not there yet. I am doing longer easy training rides and runs to get used to the volume again. I would say fitness-wise I am a 7 at the moment. Now is not yet the time for peak fitness. From a motivational point of view a 10! This camp the preparation for my camp in Gran Canaria, Spain in February where I will intensify my training in terms of volume and intensity. On March 17 I will race Ironman Los Cabos and hope to come close to a 10.
I haven’t been sick for a while except a sore throat. I managed not to come down with a real flu. My weight I have to admit I gained a bit during the December dinner festivities (-:… I gained about 3 kilos which is normal for me and motivates me to get fit and lean again. It’s important to let yourself go a bit sometimes and then get hungry to punish yourself ( in a good way) again.

2. Please, specify your current Biestmilch intake (amount, frequency); is this the regimen during a training camp or is this a pre-race regimen?

Before I travel I always take a Booster before I enter the plane. I don’t feel jagged up because of the caffeine just good. I know these hours in the plane are a big stress on my body (now Chris will make fun of me again beeing a soft European). Well, it is how it is. I am not a good traveler and I need to protect myself more then others. Also it’s important because when I travel abroad I normally have to fight the jetlag plus a big block of training ahead of me, so I don’t want to be sick or better I want to be on top of my health when I start the camp. I also stack up my Biestmilch intake the week prior to the flight and training camp. For me its easy to take the Booster every day at least 10 days before leaving. I take one bite and I have the amount I need along with a nice little buzz which helps my training too.

3. How does your recovery day look like?

First of all: Sleeping in. That is the most important thing for me. No schedule just see how I feel. If I feel well, I’ll do an easy swim or a very, very easy 2 hours social spin or nothing.

Andi Boecherer

1. How do you currently feel, how is the training progressing? (for example, have you been sick, did you have weight problems, was motivation an issue, on a scale between 1 to 10 where would you see actual fitness etc…, how much time do you calculate to be fully fit …)

I feel very good, no health issues. A bit tired, would need more sleep, but due to some issues at home not related with my sport, I couldn’t get as much sleep as needed. My daughter was very sick. Of course, she had first priority and not sleeping.
My actual fitness I would say is 7 in the swim, 6 on the bike and 8 on the run. I think in 6 weeks I will ready to rock the race in Abu Dhabi.

 2. Please, specify your current Biestmilch intake (amount, frequency); is this the regimen during a training camp or is this a pre-race regimen?

My current Biestmilch intake is about 4 grams per day. During the training camp and the week after I take 8grams per day. Prior to an important race I have 6 grams a day.

3. How does your recovery day look like?

Normally, 6 km swim workout including intervals and weight training for the upper body and often core work, which I do very very strict every second day…

Susann

Susann is the biest prototype and head of the team. She is Austrian, has studied medicine, meaning she is a medical doctor and the Biesters' alpha wolf. Susann continuously produces new ideas, is strong in making concepts and is practically always ON FIRE. Without her BIESTMILCH wouldn't be where and what it is today, and anyway - not possible.

Chris McCormack & Sebastian Kienle about their early season fitness and about how they use Biestmilch

And last but not least Yvonne van Vlerken and her very own style to use Biestmilch
