Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 2015
The Pier in Kailua is a very special place for the triathletes who are racing the world championships there. It’s where you go every morning for your swim training which can be quite an experience of a wild water swim. The swell can be incredible high on some days.
On the other hand it’s the spot where you meet »friends and foes« from all over the world, and it’s a kind of catwalk where athletes show their perfect bodies, where they scrutinize and assess the shape of their competitors, it’s a kind of marketplace actually.
The amazing thing about the Pier is that it has two totally different side. The one I just described above on its left: hectic and swarming with people, and the right part, where fishermen, mainly Hawaiian and Japanese are waiting peacefully for catching their meals.
The Piers middle is rather empty, it feels like a demarcation line, the two worlds interestingly enough do not mingle. But see yourself.
