What an experience! Since I was 12 years old I never set on a horse’s back again. Honestly, I was stressed and tensed in the beginning and Kailua, my horse, tried to test me and push her head through.
It took me a while to ease up and find into a kind of harmony with her.

We picked the DaHana Ranch because it is owned by true Hawaiians. It is embedded into the soft greens outside of Waimea along the old Mamalahoa Highway. We were riding on vast pastures and up the gentle slopes towards the Mauna Kea.

The weather was great, no rain, the temperature really nice, not chilly at all. Among cows spreading out and retired horses enjoying their lives after a life of work we paved our way through. The owner of ranch and guide Pa’akaula, a man in a world where men are still men 😉 left us most of the time to our own devices.

So we could choose our own trails, our own speed, just awesome.

You are able to forget your troubles, your everyday struggles. It’s some kind of meditation. I really do hope that the guys we are going venture out with next week experience it the way we did today.

By the way foals survive without BIESTMILCH.
