It was certainly one of our most crazy adventures that we ever undertook as BIESTMILCH team. Cold and stormy weather was not the only challenge on this ride over the vast pastures of the Dahana Ranch. A thunderstorm with bolts and lightenings right above us gave the situation even more suspense beside the fact that all of us were completely unexperienced when it came to riding a horse. As you can imagine, the bike-riding skills of our top triathletes were not of any help under these conditions.
It was a day so cold that the slopes up to the Mauna Kea were covered with snow. On its summit an ice storm let the water freezing in horizontal direction.
The lesson we learnt: At this altitude even in Hawaii – famous for its volcanoes, palm trees and beaches – you have to be prepared and carry the appropriate outfit with you.
